Qub0065c, Wednesday, October 9, 2002 – At a meeting yesterday evening, some 200 employees of the Journal de Qub0065c voted unanimously in favour of initiating pressure tactics.

The principal dispute concerns the pension plan. Union members consider the plan to be an essential condition in continuing the bargaining which started in May of this year. However, inspite of the many sessions already held, Quebecor, represented by the Journal’s publisher, Jean-Claude L’Abbe002c maintains its position and refuses to budge.

The collective agreements of the four CUPE unions (locals 1450 - Newsroom, 1872 - Printing, 2808 - Office, and 3208 - Representatives) expired on December 31, 2001.

The vote on Tuesday evening was particularly significant in that it was the first time in the history of the Journal de Qub0065c that, during a meeting, workers had chosen to exercise pressure tactics.
