(Port Hawkesbury) Municipal outside workers with the Town of Port Hawkesbury have a new, three-year deal with the town.

Town council approved the deal with CUPE Local 2434 last night.

CUPE National Representative Terry Goulding says, Both union and management had to give and take a little, which is what bargaining is all about. We ended up with a fair deal.

Goulding says the outstanding issue of sick leave affecting overtime hours was resolved to CUPEs satisfaction. In addition, the Town will not contract out the meter reading duties.

The workers will receive the following wage increases:

  • 4% April 1, 2003
  • 3.5% April 1, 2004
  • 3.5% April 1, 2005

The agreement runs through to March 31, 2006.
