CUPE PEI launched an ad campaign urging the provincial government to come clean on its plans to cut back public sector workers.

The ad, which appeared in Prince Edward Island newspapers this week, urged the government to restore its tradition of consulting with public sector unions when conducting its workforce renewal program.

CUPE PEI criticized the government for announcing plans to cut back programs without consulting the union.

The government announced plans Mar. 17 to eliminate 500 positions through early retirement and attrition, predicting $9.5 million in savings.
