Paul Moist electrified CUPE 5167 members rallying against two-tier employment in front of Hamilton’s convention centre Jan. 9.

“Your national union is behind you all the way in your fight to stop discrimination in the City of Hamilton,” said Moist. “When you take on one of us, you are taking on all of us.” Moist was referring to the City’s discriminatory behaviour towards ‘casual’ workers who are denied the same workplace rights and benefits as their full-time colleagues. He also reminded the crowd that they have the full support of all 560,000 CUPE members from coast to coast to coast.

Moist encouraged CUPE 5167 members to stay strong and remain united to win a fair contract for the more than 2,700 municipal workers, who provide essential services to Hamiltonians.  Mediated talks between CUPE 5167 and their employer continue next week.
