PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – Patient transfer workers with Paladin Ontario Transfer, operating as Travois Medical Transfer in Durham Region, voted 87 per cent in favour of joining the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The certification vote, supervised by the Ontario Labour Relations Board, took place on Friday, November 24th.

Joining CUPE is the first step for these new members to address fairness, equity and health and safety issues in their workplace,” said Debbie Oldfield, CUPE national representative. “We look forward to working with our new sisters and brothers to ensure they have the same respect and rights that other CUPE members enjoy.”

The 63 new CUPE members provide non-emergency patient transfer services in Durham region and the counties of Peterborough, Haliburton and Northumberland. CUPE is Canada’s largest union, representing over 550,000 members across the country.
