Oxford County Public Health workers prepare to fight for equity with 100 % strike vote
Woodstock, Ont. – Oxford County Public Health workers, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), are set to resume conciliation talks on February 4, after an initial conciliation meeting ended with very little progress. The workers voted 100 per cent in favour of a strike if a fair collective agreement is not reached with their employer.
“Our members are unanimous in their resolve to achieve a fair deal,” said Linda Thurston-Neeley, national representative for CUPE 1146. “We are working to level the playing field and address inequities that exist for our members in Oxford County. While our members work for the same employer, the employee benefits package varies widely for different workers – that’s got to stop.”
CUPE 1146 represents 31 public health workers who provide health inspection, health promotion, and administrative services in Oxford County. The workers’ last contract expired on December 31, 2006.
“Management needs to come to the table prepared and willing to address the outstanding issues,” said Thurston-Neeley.
