More than three thousand employees of the Ottawa Hospital have a new collective agreement. On Monday September 13, 2004, an arbitration board issued a decision providing a three-year contract retroactive to September 2001.

The award provides all clerical, service and trades employees with retroactive increases totaling 8.5%, says Dianne Lavoie, President of CUPE Local 4000. In addition, employees will receive improvements to benefits, vacations, and shift and weekend premiums.

The last contract expired in September 2001. Our members have had to wait a long time for this decision, says Lavoie, noting that the Hospital had tried unsuccessfully to roll back some working conditions. The Union plans to start bargaining for a renewal contract immediately.
