The leaders of BC’s three major transit unions are warning Lower Mainland bus riders that splitting Vancouver’s bus system will mean chaos for commuters.

The Greater Vancouver Transit Authority is considering a recommendation to split its bus operations into two separate companies.

Barry O’Neill, president of CUPE BC, said he’s shocked that the GVTA doesn’t even seem interested in public input on the issue: “They’re intended to tear the bus system in half, and to ram decision making through in a matter of weeks without the benefit of a single public meeting!”

CUPE is working jointly with ICTU and the OPEIU to protect a single integrated bus system, raising public awareness and increasing pressure on municipal officials.
