CUPE and the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care are starting the second phase of their campaign, Stepping Up For Child Care. This phase of the campaign will focus on building and strengthening the capacity of CUPE child care members to work in coalition with their local child care community in advocating for a publicly funded and delivered system of child care.

Provincial downloading of new child care funding and delivery responsibilities onto local government will mean that the struggle for regulated child care will take place at the local level, and CUPE will be ready! CUPE will be working over the next few months to get child care workers lobbying municipal government to make regulated child care a priority in the municipal budgets, to protect and expand non-profit child care and to maintain directly operated municipal child care centres.

The union will continue to work closely with the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care to stop provincial child care funding cuts and to pressure the province to increase funding transfers to municipalities so they can deliver high quality regulated child care.

Learn about how you and your centre can get involved in the fight to save regulated child care from the Harris governments not so commonsense revolution. Join us in the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Cares Friday Phone Fun Day.
