Four Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) van drivers will be off the job this week, as library workers continue to fight for a fair collective agreement.

CUPE van drivers will be on strike Wednesday, June 6 through Saturday, June 9 inclusive. According to CUPE 1123 president Rose Jurkic this is the next step in a rotating strike which began last month.

Library workers want to stress that this dispute is with the employer and not with patrons, and we will continue to keep libraries open as long as possible with as few interruptions as possible,” said Jurkic.

CUPE 1123 is seeking a fair and reasonable collective agreement that includes a modest wage increase with improvements to extended benefits. Some of library workers extended benefits have had no improvements in 20 years.

Library workers are urging the public to contact their local library board members and demand fairness for Okanagan library workers.
