Residents and workers at Sherbrooke Heights are celebrating today after the tentative agreement CUPE 5129 reached with the employer was ratified last night in a unanimous vote. Members of the union had been seeking a fair offer on wages, which were some of the lowest in the sector.
“This new collective agreement works to benefit the members of the bargaining unit, and we are happy with the result,” said Heather Blackburn, President of CUPE 5129. “We’re glad we can focus on providing the best service possible to the community we care so much about. The solidarity and support from our members and the community made this possible.”
The agreement is a three-year term, with wage and benefits improvements that will ensure members can care for their families, as well as the residents of Sherbrooke Heights for years to come.
