The union representing Hydro-Québec’s on-site nurses (SIICHQ), CUPE 5514, has joined the bargaining alliance made up of CUPE 957, CUPE 1500 and CUPE 4785 to obtain a satisfactory contract. Together, the alliance represents more than 8,650 Hydro-Québec employees.
“Although CUPE 5514 is currently negotiating its first collective agreement, this arrangement will bolster our bargaining power and it give us a platform to discuss the objectives we have in common, while keeping our uniqueness in mind. The sharing of resources, information and experience by these unions will enable our new accreditation to create a stronger union movement and make our voices heard by the employer,” said CUPE 5514 President Frédéric Turcotte.
“The Alliance wants to indicate to the employer that we stand together in total solidarity to coordinate our strengths. We want to send a clear message to Hydro-Québec: we will not allow the employer to treat our colleagues this way. They deserve decent working conditions and a collective agreement that will enable them to defend themselves,” explained CUPE 1500 President Frédéric Savard and CUPE 957 President Robert Claveau.
