Following three special meetings held during the day on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the union representing Montreal longshore workers announced the results of the vote on two questions. They rejected the employer’s last offer (99.63%) and voted for pressure tactics up to and including strike action (97.88%).
Turnout was strong, with 1088 of the 1197 union members (90.33%) exercising their voting rights.
The parties will begin mediation on Thursday, September 26 to continue their efforts to reach a satisfactory agreement.
The Montreal longshore workers have been without a collective agreement since December 31, 2023.
The union will not be giving any interviews, as all of its energy is focused on negotiations.
