In Quebec’s education sector, two groups affiliated with CUPE have announced that they have come to an agreement with the government and that the final wording of the new contract is in line with the tentative agreement reached on December 24 and 27. The 11,950 school support members and approximately 1100 members of the Syndicat des professionnels et professionnelles de Laval–Rive-Nord, SPPLRN, are a step closer to finalizing the agreement.
“After going back and forth on the wording for several weeks, we’re pleased to announce that we’re in the final phase of signing our new collective agreement. We’ll be able to confirm the date it’ll be signed in the coming days,” explained Richard Delisle, vice-president of the CUPE Quebec Education Sector.
Delisle mentioned that, until then, the bargaining committee will be meeting with officials of the locals to inform them of the scheduled signing dates. A reminder will also be distributed to explain all of the provisions of the new agreement to them, particularly those on retroactive pay, the application of new wage rates and premiums.
The SPPLRN has looked back on the progress made and can see the finish line for this series of talks. “Following the negotiations that were prepared long before the expiry of the previous collective agreement, the historic mobilization of the membership and the many hours of meetings and discussions, the SPPLRN-CUPE is proud to make this announcement. The next step is signing the new contract,” said SPPLRN President Yves Devost.
The union representatives are now awaiting the next step – the signing of the new contract.
