Approximately 600 support employees with the École de technologie supérieure, ÉTS, staged a one day strike today. Their collective agreement expired on March 31, 2022, and negotiations began on November 30, 2022. Internal promotions, recognition of competencies, terms and conditions governing telework and wages are among the main issues.
These employees represent 81 different professions in the professional, technical, office and trades and services personnel groups.
They picketed in front of 1111 Notre-Dame Street West in Montreal on Wednesday, January 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Following one year of negotiations, our members signalled to us that we had to step up our pressure tactics. Their work with the ÉTS is not getting the recognition it deserves, and the time has come for remedial action. They must be given the opportunity to reach their full potential, which benefits both the institution itself and the students,” said Mathieu Dulude, president of CUPE 3187, the union representing ÉTS employees (SEÉTS).
In November, the union launched a campaign titled “Chaque maillon compte” (Each link matters) to increase the recognition of its members, which can be found at https://www.noussommesets.ca/
