CUPE is appalled by the City of Saint-Constant’s move to address the long-standing unhealthy climate in the blue-collar workplace. The City has laid off one employee and suspended three without pay.
The union has repeatedly denounced the situation and invited the employer to take joint action to find a lasting solution to the problem.
“This time, all it took was a simple complaint filed by a manager for the City of Saint-Constant to act rashly by dismissing one employee and suspending three others,” deplores CUPE reprenstative Carole Bouchard.
According to the union, this action is a pretext to fuel the environment of terror. These unjustified disciplinary measures will be contested by way of grievance. The members of CUPE 2566 are outraged by the employer’s behaviour.
“The City has chosen to spend large sums of money to try to defend these measures and maintain this toxic work environment rather than seek, as the law requires, ways to clean up the environment. This is unprecedented.”concludes Bouchard.
