What are you doing to end the month long City of London strike?
While Mayor Brown makes blanket statements of ‘valuing city workers’, the City Manager is doing the opposite – hiring replacement workers and encouraging scabs to perform the duties normally delivered by the striking workers.
How is replacing workers and hiring scabs valuing city workers? It shows a complete lack of respect for workers and these tactics will prolong the strike, not end this dispute.
As elected members of council, it is your job to lead the city, not just sit and watch the city’s tactics continue. Stand up for the residents of London and ask some basic questions like:
• Whose agenda is driving this strike?
• Why are management negotiators continuing to refuse to budge on contract takeaways and not having wholesome discussions with the union on the outstanding issues?
• Why are you refusing the arbitration route offered by the union?
Council has a duty to find a resolution to end this strike and not just watch on the sidelines as the strike continues.
