Members of the union for City of Montreal public transit administrative, technical and professional personnel (Syndicat du personnel administratif, technique et professionnel du transport en commun – CUPE 2850) have voted 92 percent in favour of a new labour contract. The union executive had recommended the agreement in principle at a general meeting on May 16.
The previous collective agreement between the union and the Société de transport de Montreal (STM) expired January 8, 2012. Union President Martin Gagnon said he was, “proud of this agreement, which was negotiated intensively for a short time, but which provides stability for good long time.”
The new contract covers a term of six years. In addition to wage increases, there are improvements to employment accessibility and staffing levels. Another key element of the agreement is maintenance of the pension plan with defined benefits. The signing will take place soon.
