SUDBURY, ON. — The OMERS pension plan, local health integration networks and P3 hospitals — all on the provincial Liberal agenda this fall — will be the focus of a Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) ambulance workers conference that opens tomorrow morning with a speech by Sid Ryan.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees Ontario president will outline campaigns that the union plans to take to every riding where there is a Liberal MPP.
“Paramedics have a lot coming at them from Queen’s Park this fall, starting with the Bill 206 changes to governance of the OMERS pension plan, which overlooks their special status as emergency service workers,” Ryan said. “Like 70,000 other CUPE members in health care and certain social services, they are going to be affected by the Liberal government’s plan for local health integration networks.
“And, like all taxpayers in the province, they are concerned about getting a good deal when it comes to renewing infrastructure. The Liberal plan for P3s — public private partnerships like the hospitals in North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie — is a bad deal.”
