(Sydney) More than 300 outside workers with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) are back on the job at this hour, after staging a one-day, wildcat strike.
The members of CUPE Local 759 walked off the job this morning, after charging a renegade supervisor was docking workers a half-hour’s pay for showing up two minutes late for work.
Local president Allan Clarke says, “One of the supervisors took it upon himself to unilaterally introduce this new policy 15 minutes docked pay for each minute an employee was late. Our members were outraged at this action.”
At a meeting that wrapped up a little after 5:00 pm today, the union was given a commitment that the lost time would be reinstated. The issue will be dealt with at an upcoming labour-management meeting.
