WHISTLER, BC – CUPE 2010, representing municipal workers in the Resort Municipality of Whistler, is pleased to welcome its latest group of new members, 18 maintenance workers at the Meadow Park Sports Centre. The workers voted to join CUPE Local 2010 in a Labour Board vote that was counted on May 24.

These workers provide facility maintenance, looking after the mechanical end of things. The Zamboni drivers maintain the arena ice including the ammonia plant, while pool operators take care of chlorination at the aquatics centre.

CUPE 2010 President Pete Davidson noted that the maintenance workers are joining mechanics and central stores workers, who also became members of CUPE 2010 in the last few months.

“We’re really pleased to welcome these workers into our local,” said Davidson. “We look forward to bargaining for them in the upcoming year.”

CUPE 2010 also represents eight mechanics for the municipality and Central Stores Department workers from the Public Works Yard, as well as 37 municipal workers in the Resort Municipality of Whistler.
