The CUPE news default page is fixed. It now properly displays recent news and upcoming events. It had been unable to display events properly.
Since the site’s relaunch it has been possible (and likely visitors’ first choice) to bypass the main news page and go straight to the section that interested them be it the calendar or the news section. So it hasn’t been the source of a lot of complaints.
