Three days after it won the contract to do hospital laundry in BCs Fraser Valley, Keefer Laundry was sold to a US multinational.

Its bad enough that health care dollars are being diverted to private profits but once again those public dollars will be padding the bottom line of a foreign corporation, said HEU official Zorica Bosancic.

The Fraser Valley Health Authority announced Aug. 10 a $50 million deal to contract its laundry to Keefer Laundry. On Aug. 13, Milwaukee-based G & K Services Inc. announced it had bought the Burnaby company.

The 10-year contract takes work away from the Tilbury Regional Hospital Laundry a publicly-owned facility in Delta recognized for its efficiency and quality service and will cause layoffs.
