A new report from the UK-based Public Services International Research Unit highlights the people power that can stop privatization. Public resistance to privatisation in water and energy documents the role of popular opposition in delaying, cancelling or reversing the privatization of these key services. Finally, two University of Toronto economists have found that non-profit child care centres provide higher quality than for-profits where there is high demand, showing that competition and the “market” don’t force for-profit centres to perform better.
