On Wednesday June 9, 2010, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board granted a certificate to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) to represent the flight attendants of Canadian North.

These 99 flight attendants, with bases in Edmonton and Calgary previously negotiated with their employer as an independent association. They chose CUPE, knowing they are better off as members of Canada’s largest union with the strength and resources CUPE can offer. They are welcomed into the CUPE family in the Alberta region, as well as by the 10,000 flight attendants CUPE represents.

Chantale Grenon-Nyenhuis, National Representative with CUPE said, “This is not an easy time for the aviation industry and we look forward to working with them to ensure they can do their jobs safely and to improve their working conditions.”
