There are some looming negative aspects of the trade deals Canada is negotiating with Colombia and Korea, says free trade specialist Scott Sinclair. For one, international investors could sue our governments.

Sound familiar? It’s NAFTA spreading like a plague. If these deals go through, according to Sinclair representing the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, companies could take our governments to binding arbitration over our public policies.

Scott presented his views on the proposed Canada-Korea free trade agreement, but alluded regularly to the deal in Colombia. He was addressing the federal Standing Committee on International Trade on Nov. 29, 2007.
