During this National Executive Board meeting and in subsequent meetings of the NEB, National Committees and staff, we will be adopting action plans to carry out the resolutions and policy papers adopted by the delegates to the CUPE National Convention last November.

It was an exciting convention, to say the least, full of lively and healthy debate, controversy, and hotly-contested elections. But, above all else, it was a convention where delegates came together time and again to show that they understand the importance of unity and solidarity to take on the battles ahead.

I have full confidence that the new National Executive Board will be focussing all its energies on carrying out the mandate given us by convention and taking on the forces arrayed against us. Claude Gnreux and I are both completely committed to making that happen.

It has been a great pleasure and privilege to work side by side with our newly-elected National-Secretary-Treasurer these last two and a half months. Hes an incredibly hard-working and principled trade unionist with a very big job to do. And he proves every day that he is more than up to the task!

We are bringing forward a proposal to this NEB about how to go forward with the Task Force on Delegate Entitlement approved at National Convention

And on a final convention note: We did not receive the judges written decision relating to Local 873s court challenge of HEUs delegate entitlement in time to distribute it at Convention as had been promised, but it is available by either linking to it on the web site, or calling my office and requesting a copy. I am pleased to inform you that Local 873 has decided not to proceed with further legal action.
