DISTRICT OF HOPE—Members of CUPE 458, municipal workers have soundly rejected the District of Hope’s final offer in a vote this morning.

CUPE 458 president Louise Piper is calling on the District to come back to the table and negotiate a fair settlement. “We’re willing to negotiate through the weekend if that’s what it takes”, says Piper.

District of Hope workers have continued to work without a contract since December 31, 2007. CUPE 458 represents the 30 workers who provide public services including maintenance of roads and parks, as well as support for planning, building, financial and the RCMP for the District of Hope.

“Our members want to continue providing quality services to residents,” adds Piper. “We hope that the District feels the same way and comes back to the table immediately.”
