The town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay has locked out its employees as it presses for concessions in their collective agreement. The town wants to cut back the travel allowance workers get each year to take their family on a trip out of Labrador.
For them to bicker over $10,000 out of a $10 million annual budget is absurd, says CUPE representative Dave Reynolds. Especially since all of the other issues have been settled.
Members of CUPE Local 2019 are urging town council to end the lockout before someone gets hurt. The town has been without adequate fire protection, ambulance services and snow removal since the 37 employees were locked out February 23.
