The Niagara District CUPE Council is hosting their annual Fall school. This year’s one-day school offers four streams of practical training, designed to support members in the many roles they play within their locals. Whether you are a local executive member, steward, health and safety representative, or looking to strengthen your understanding of anti-racism and Indigenous cultural safety, there is a stream for you. Choose your stream. Build your skills. Strengthen your union!
LET - Financial Essentials
October 17, 2026 (9:00am-4:00pm)
This workshop is for all members in an elected position within the local union. Whether you are a trustee or a member of the executive, learning about the basics of the local union’s finances is a priority. In this workshop, you will learn about your duties regarding the finances of the union, budgeting and how to be transparent and accountable to members. NOTE: This workshop is a pre-requisite for Secretary-Treasurers and Trustees wishing to take LET - Financial Officers.
ARC - Reconcili-ACTION & Indigenous Cultural Safety
October 17, 2026 (9:00am-4:00pm)
1-Day in-person workshop for all members. In this workshop, we will look at Canada’s history of settler colonialism, explore how to recognize and challenge racism against Indigenous members, and discuss how we can leverage our power as union activists to advance reconciliation and Indigenous cultural safety in our workplaces and locals.
SLS - Popular economics for stewards

We keep hearing that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. How do these trends impact our lives as workers and union members? What is needed from us as stewards in these times of growing economic inequality?
SLS - Representing members in front of management
October 17, 2026 (1:00pm-4:00pm)
This module equips stewards to be proactive when meeting with management. Learn tips for effective meetings, and build confidence by practicing meeting situations.
HS - Violence Prevention
October 17, 2026 (9:00am-12:00pm)
This module examines the risk factors that lead to violence in the workplace, and the employer’s obligations to prevent workers from being exposed to and injured by violence while at work. We examine relevant health and safety law, and start to develop strategies to make our workplaces safer. NOTE: Please bring your binder and Health and Safety Committee Resource Kit.
Sexual Violence and Harassment at Work
October 17, 2026 (1:00pm-4:00pm)
This workshop will help participants: - Recognize sexual harassment and sexual violence. - Understand the impact of sexual violence and harassment on workers. - Know our rights, roles and responsibilities. - Practice how to address sexual violence as an active bystander. - Learn how to deal with and prevent sexual violence and harassment.
