Almost 40 custodians, maintenance workers, mechanics and other employees of Prairie Land School Division have voted to join CUPE.

The group of employees joins the Educational Assistants, who joined the union in January.

CUPE Alberta President Marle Roberts said she is happy the employees have joined the union, indicating that the combined numbers will translate into more bargaining power.

The Prairie Land employees are now part of Canada’s largest union of educational workers,” said Roberts. “They join a network of K-12 staff in every corner of the county.”

Educational support staff are critical to the job of teaching our children, yet they are often overlooked by school boards and governments who want to cut costs.  CUPE fights for their role and for the respect these men and women deserve.”
