The first Grace Hartman Award has been given to long-time union and social justice activist Dorothy Sauras.

The award has been created to mark the exceptional contribution of women activists in CUPE and pay tribute to the pioneering spirit of CUPE’s first woman president.

Sister Sauras, from CUPE 301 (City of Montreal outside workers) has been a fierce defender of the rights of injured and unemployed workers, while fighting since the 30s for peace and social justice.
