Make it four. Thats how many strikes are now on in Ontario, with the members of CUPE 1287 in Niagara hitting the bricks just after midnight on September 13.

The 16 employees of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Niagara South branch, went on strike after trying since June 1998 to negotiate a first contract.

Major issues in the dispute are employer demands for concessions to sick leave benefits and vacation provisions.

All four of the strikes currently underway in Ontario are in the social services sector.
