(HAMILTON) - Picket lines were set up this morning at the entrance to McMaster University as 1250 teaching assistants took strike action in support of a new contract.

Members of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3906 resoundingly rejected a final offer vote that had been forced on them by the university administration.

The teaching assistants have been demanding a decent wage increase, some form of tuition rebate and improved benefits. The TAs have not had a wage increase in five years while tuition and other costs continue to climb.
