Regional Vice-President, British Columbia
Mark Hancock is President of CUPE BC, elected in April 2013, following four terms as Secretary-Treasurer. He was first elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer in 2005. Prior to that he served on the CUPE BC executive board for 12 years in various capacities, including six years as a General Vice-President. A CUPE member since 1984, Hancock was the president of Local 498, Port Coquitlam Municipal Employees, for 15 years.
Hancock chaired numerous CUPE BC committees prior to being elected as Secretary-Treasurer, including eight years as chair of the Political Action Committee. He also chaired the Municipal Committee, the Transportation Committee, the Universities Committee and the Young Workers Task Force.
In 2005, Hancock was elected to the CUPE National Executive Board representing British Columbia as a Regional Vice-President. He was the first chair of the CUPE National Political Action Committee and also served on as the National Union’s Liaison to the Global Justice Committee. He also represents CUPE BC as an Officer at the BC Federation of Labour.
