CUPE has picked up its third health care region in Manitoba in as many weeks. The sixth straight region to choose CUPE is Marquette, which was decided when SEIU withdrew from the ballot this week.

As a result, CUPE picks up 130 former SEIU members and 20 non-union workers. Over the course of the health care votes in Manitoba, CUPE has welcomed 796 new members.

With only one more region to vote, CUPE has a real chance to bring an overwhelming majority of health care support workers in Manitoba into one union, giving support workers one strong voice in dealing with the Filmon Government.

The last - and biggest - region to vote is Central, expected early in 1999.
