The April 4 Speech from the Throne will set out the agenda of Canada’s new Conservative government. This is a crucial moment for the government to commit to more and better aid.

All leaders of opposition parties in the last Parliament (including Stephen Harper) called for a legislative mandate for aid through a new law that would commit foreign aid spending to one goal - ending poverty. So even with a minority government now in power, Members of Parliament from all parties can collaborate to Make Poverty History.

Go to http://www.makepovertyhistory.ca/e/home.php to send an email to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, as well as your own Member of Parliament.

And why not gather a few friends and ask for a meeting with your MP in order to make your views known in person? Right now MPs are still in their ridings and available for meetings. Check out our website at http://www.makepovertyhistory.ca/e/resources/political-action/ to see the Make Poverty History kit of materials that will assist you to “Meet Your MP.” Try to get a meeting before budget day, expected as early as April 11, 2006.

Hope you have recently visited the White Band page on our website http://www.makepovertyhistory.ca/e/whiteband.html to see how easy it has become to order White Bands. Ten Thousand Villages has 42 stores across Canada, and will also send bulk orders to you by mail.

Wear your White Band on April 4! And make your voice heard!
