EDMONTON - Maintenance staff at Edmonton Public schools joined other non-teaching staff in finalizing a new contract.

CUPE Local 784 President Bruce Cutting announced that members of his union have voted to accept a deal with the school board giving maintenance staff 5.25% raises over two years and protections against contracting out of union work.

“This agreement gives us a measure of job security we didn’t have before,” said Cutting. “The school board has agreed to not contract out smaller maintenance jobs.”

Other highlights included a signing bonus and an improved benefit package.
