CORNER BROOK, NL – CUPE’S Wayne Lucas will be in Corner Brook this weekend to meet with locals to urge them to get involved with the upcoming Federal Election.

Lucas says, “I will also be reminding CUPE members that our union supports the New Democratic Party and we will be urging them to support labour’s party.”

For five years now the Stephen Harper Conservatives have put the interests of banks and big corporations ahead of working families,“ says Lucas.

CUPE NL says too many working families are struggling to:

  • Care for aging parents
  • Keep up with the cost of housing
  • Find affordable child care
  • Pay for  prescription drugs
  • Afford to retire with dignity

“The NDP is fighting to end corporate tax giveaways and invest those billions of dollars in child care, infrastructure, public health care, clean water and other services all Canadians depend on,” says Lucas.

The CUPE NL president will be meeting with locals in the Corner Brook office on Friday evening at 8 p.m. and on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
