Local 79 negotiators reached a tentative agreement with the City of Toronto at 3:30 am, August 4th, following marathon negotiations, on behalf of 16,000 inside workers. “This is the first time Local 79 has been able to negotiate a collective agreement without heading into a strike since the amalgamation of the City in 1998,” said CUPE Local 79 president Ann Dembinski. “We would like to thank Local 79 members for their support and solidarity – thanks to our strength we were able to achieve our objectives at the bargaining table.” The deal must still be ratified by Local 79 members and Toronto City Council.
