TORONTO – Negotiators for the Toronto Civic Employees’ Union, Local 416 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), have extended their strike deadline to 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 9th.

“We owe it to our members and to the residents of Toronto to give the process a little more time to reach a settlement,” said Local 416 president Brian Cochrane. “This will be the only extension in contract negotiations, and either we will get a deal by noon Saturday, or there will be a strike.”

Local 416 represents 6,000 outside workers in Toronto, including water/wastewater workers, paramedics (EMS), solid waste workers, parks and recreation workers, corporate services and transportation workers.
