VANCOUVER – After another day in mediation Simon Fraser University and its 750 support staff, members of CUPE Local 3338 are still very far from an agreement that will satisfy members who provide support services at the main campus on Burnaby Mountain, Harbour Centre, or the Surrey Campus.

“We tried to get the employer to discuss our main issues without any success what so ever. Wages, benefits and job security are still firmly on the table,” said John Bannister, business agent for CUPE Local 3338.

The CUPE local is promising to continue and even increase pressure on their employer until the employer “deems itself ready to discuss issues of grave importance to support staff on all three campuses.” said Bannister.

The Maggie Benston Centre will be the focus of picketing on Thursday, “We are not here to disrupt the students per se, but we will seek to continue disrupting management’s ability to function administratively,” said Bannister, in indicating that only employer’s premises will be disrupted within the Maggie Benston Centre, www.cupebc.ca and www.cupe3338.bc.ca.
