Library workers to hold

read-in” at City Hall on May 1st

Regina: Striking Regina Public Library workers will hold a “Read-In” in the courtyard of City Hall tomorrow May 1st, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to reading their favourite books, the workers will be studying literature on pay equity.

The workers have invited Mayor Pat Fiacco, Councillor Bill Wells and RPL Board Chair Faye Cameron to the read-in to discuss their views on pay equity.

Mayor Fiacco and Councillor Wells are the only elected officials on the Library Board and it is important for our members and the electorate to know their views on this very important subject,” says Rosemary Oddie, acting president of CUPE Local 1594, which represents the library workers. “Ms. Cameron, as chair of the board, also has the responsibility to let her views be known on pay equity.”

The library workers began a full strike on April 16. They have been without a contract since December 31, 2000.
