The theme of CUPE’s second National Sector Council Conference is “Organizing for success.” We’ll explore this theme across regions and sectors in plenary. Speakers will highlight the central role of organizing in building stronger communities and stronger CUPE locals. We’ll also explore the impact of an expanded CPP on our pension bargaining, as well as how we can use our collective agreements to end workplace violence and harassment. Expect these sessions to spark many ideas and conversations!

There will also be lots of time for sector-specific work. Over the course of the conference, library workers will meet to discuss:

  • Precarious work in libraries and the new CUPE library workers’ survey

  • Results of CUPE’s health and safety survey of libraries in British Columbia

  • Hubs for social services: The role of library workers supporting vulnerable members of our communities

  • How CUPE members beat back the plan to close 51 libraries in Newfoundland and Labrador

  • Organizing in our sector
