The BC Liberal government has vowed to cut up to 40 per cent of public services to address a $2 billion-plus deficit that they created through corporate tax cuts.

CUPE BC president Barry ONeill warned that this could make British Columbias communities vulnerable to a Walkerton-style disaster. The Liberals, through a secretive core services review, are intent on imposing hardships on our communities without any mandate or any public consultation.

ONeill noted that, If Liberal Finance Minister Gary Collins were running a corporation, the stockholders would have fired him for incompetence.

CUPE members are preparing to attend the Union of BC Municipalities annual convention in Vancouver in the last week of September, to express their concerns to local elected officials.
