For the third year in a row, custodial and maintenance staff at Lethbridge area schools (CUPE Local 290) have collected socks for five local charities in their annual “Sock it to ‘em” drive.

We live in a northern climate, warm clothes are a necessity, not a luxury,” CUPE Local 290 Treasurer Gail Petrie said. “Too many people in our communities don’t have the means to dress properly.”

If we have enough, it’s our responsibility to do what we can for those who don’t,” she added. “That’s how you build strong communities.”

The union is building ‘sock mountain’ and will present it to representatives of local charities this Wednesday.
