Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton took some time out of his election campaigning Saturday in Halifax, to lend his support to Air Canada flight attendants who are facing base closures in that city and in Winnipeg.

“Stephen Harper has turned his back on working people here in Nova Scotia. Nearly 200 flight attendants – all good CUPE members – will lose their jobs if Air Canada closes its Halifax base. They’re the same flight attendants who took a pay cut to help the airline just four years ago. />Stephen Harper doesn’t care,” said Layton.

Pictured here with several CUPE flight attendants and their families, Layton signed a large petitition pledging his support to stop the base closures.  The petition was also signed by several Nova Scotia NDP candidates.

Local media covered the event well. Watch a report on video.
