March 1, 2000, Langley - The bargaining committee for the Langley School District support staff (inside workers), CUPE Local 1260, are asking their 600 members for a mandate to take strike action should that action become necessary.

Donna Mason, President of CUPE Local 1260 said, “We think that our members are discouraged with the inability of this local to make decisions about important issues that affect our members and the services that we provide. We hope their frustration will give the bargaining committee what it needs to get some bargaining action.”

CUPE Local 1260 is one of 47 locals in the CUPE K-12 Sectoral Bargaining Committee (SBC). The major issues on their bargaining table are: Job Security, Technological Change, Benefits, Pensions, Wages, Health and Safety, and Pay Equity.

Gary Johnson, CUPE National Representative and Co-ordinator for the SBC says he is not surprised to see the Langley inside support staff join their brothers and sisters in seeking member authority to use job action if necessary.
