After a year of negotiations, health workers at Lakeshore Place have ratified their first-ever collective agreement with this private for-profit assisted living facility in Kelowna.

Mediator Grant McArthur helped both sides reach a final settlement that includes a modest wage increase, new protections against contracting out, health and safety provisions, a grievance procedure and compassionate leave.

The four-year agreement is retroactive to October 1, 2001. Lakeshore Place is home to about 84 seniors and is owned by Pacifc Sun Enterprises which has also ratified the new contract.
