The day before a 48-hour outside-worker strike begins in Kirkland, a foreman has assaulted a CUPE 301 representative near the public works building. The incident took place as a dozen outside workers were putting up stickers to explain the conflict in the talks to renew the collective agreement.

“The action was calm and respectful until a city foreman physically assaulted one of the CUPE 301 representatives,” said Jean-Pierre Lauzon, president of the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal (CUPE 301). “A police report has been filed.”

The outside worker, who was physically and psychologically affected by the attack, required assistance from first responders.

“We will fully support our assaulted member in the coming steps resulting from the violence and trauma they suffered,” concluded Lauzon. “We will not put up with bullying. We will stand together as we move forward with the strike tomorrow.”
